If you would like more information on how I calculate MMR, I've written up a little explanation here

I've recently made changes to how MMR is calculated: Generally, for the first time I see new players, I set their starting MMR to be the average of the other players. This will help when high level players happen to see other players for the first time. These other players are likely high level as well, and just haven't been seen in my database yet, so the default MMR isn't appropriate.
